Recently I had a conversation with someone who was really struggling in almost every area of their life. They had asked me what they were missing or doing wrong, they really wanted to know why things weren’t working for them. This is actually a fairly common feeling that many believers today seem to have, so today we will be looking at this problem, and the Bible’s solution to it.
If this has described you today, then this message will set you free to receive new levels of victory in Christ Jesus.
As hinted by the title of the message today, many people (including the aforementioned person) are surprised when they hear what the Bible says is the reason for such difficulties.
So let’s read exactly what the Bible has to say about all of this, our first scripture text today comes from Romans 1:16-17:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just will live by faith.”
The reason that we are reading this verse is because it ties in with the answer to our question.
The Bible’s answer to the question of why things are not working and ‘what am I missing?’ is always Jesus Christ and His finished work of salvation. I know that some of you here today are still not understanding this, so I am going to explain it in detail, because this is such a very important truth that can unlock so many doors for so many of you.
You see my friends, the word “salvation” that we see in the scripture verse we just read, is actually the Greek word soteria (your Old Testament was written in Ancient Hebrew, and your New Testament was written in Ancient Greek).
Now the interesting thing about this Greek word, is that it encompasses every other blessing from God to us. Many believers tend to think of salvation as only forgiveness of sins – and yes most certainly forgiveness of sins is there – but salvation covers everything, from health and healing, to prosperity and peace. In-fact we can say that it is because our sins are indeed forgiven that we can rightfully have all of these other blessings, because they are for the righteous… and when our sins are forgiven by Christ Jesus, we are made righteous. Are you with me on this?
So now my friends, you can understand my answer that I gave to those who asked me what they were missing and why they weren’t receiving everything… My answer was “how much do you value your salvation?”. Immediately they were taken aback and then responded with “I know I’m saved but I need X, Y or Z”.
Do you see what I mean? Many believers think of salvation and forgiveness of sins as merely a first step in a long journey, when in the eyes of God, it is the first and only step. Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Hebrews 12:2 states that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, now that really doesn’t leave anything which He does not complete now does it?
When we finally realize how very complete we are in Him, then we will see that we really lack nothing when we simply rest in Him and His completed work for us. So many people experience a lack in their lives simply because of a lack of understanding regarding the total completeness of the salvation of Christ.
If you have been saved by Jesus and you believe on Him, you have a God-given right to be free from every curse of sin, because there is no longer a curse in your life, Jesus has removed your sins and made you righteous. There can be no curse on one who is righteous. You have been saved!
